Canadian National Committee for Police/Mental Health Liaison is pleased to announce the

2nd Annual Conference on Police/Mental Health Systems Liaison Psychiatrists in Blue: Collaboration and Learning

October 26 – 27, 2003
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

NEW: See the conference Agenda

As police services move to a “community policing” model, the need for collaboration, experience, learning, education and understanding about people experiencing severe mental illnesses is important. The 2nd Annual Conference of the CNCPMHL will, therefore, focus on ways that we can teach, train, learn and work together effectively.

Topics will include:
The worst case scenario: The personal experience of a police officer
Two perspectives: thoughts from a police officer who is the mother of a son with a mental illness
Lessons learned from inquests
Learning: what we need to know and how to share it
De-institutionalization: what really are its effects?
Training in cyberspace
Learning by doing: the use of a simulator
It works both ways: educating mental health workers about police work
Teaching & training: effective programs and techniques

Also featuring, as a special evening presentation and discussion –

“Crisis Call”
a documentary produced by Sky Works, a provocative and challenging look at the issues facing both mental health consumers and police, when they come together in times of crisis
